Story of development

Blake Terry, Owner and Founder of MediTerry

Background

My name is Blake Terry, President of MediTerry. As a licensed Physical Therapist Assistant with extensive experience across inpatient, outpatient, and home health settings, I, Blake Terry, have dedicated my career to optimizing patient recovery through adaptive and personalized therapeutic interventions. My journey in healthcare, particularly within Skilled Nursing Facilities (SNFs), has granted me a deep understanding of the diverse conditions and challenges faced by patients. This hands-on experience has been pivotal in shaping my approach to patient care, always prioritizing the customization of therapy sessions to maximize their impact on each individual's recovery process.

A recurring observation throughout my career was the widespread misuse of Assistive Devices by patients, a concern that hit close to home with my grandfather, Edward L. George, whose experience mirrored those of many others, leading to falls and related complications. This critical insight spurred a pivotal shift in my professional focus towards innovation in the field of Assistive Technology.

Driven by a commitment to enhance the safety and independence of individuals reliant on mobility aids, I embarked on an entrepreneurial journey to develop a novel Medical Device designed to alert users to incorrect use of their Assistive Equipment. This venture aims not only to prevent falls but also to provide a constant, vigilant presence in the absence of healthcare providers or caregivers, particularly benefiting those in rural areas where access to professional care is often limited.

My vision is to bridge the gap in patient care through technology that empowers users, enhances mobility, and significantly reduces the risk of injury due to falls. By leveraging my background in Physical Therapy and my personal motivation stemming from my grandfather's experiences, I am dedicated to creating innovative solutions that support recovery, promote independence, and foster safer environments for those dependent on assistive devices.

Currently residing in a rural area, I am acutely aware of the challenges faced by communities with limited access to healthcare resources. My goal is to make a tangible difference through devices that offer real-time feedback and guidance, ensuring that individuals, regardless of their location, have the tools they need to navigate their recovery journey with confidence and security.

Continuing Education Courses

At MediTerry, we are committed to advancing the professional knowledge and skills of healthcare providers through our Continuing Education Units (CEUs) when available. Our CEUs will be designed and delivered by certified experts, ensuring that Physical Therapists, Occupational Therapists, and their Assistants receive the most current and relevant training. We are dedicated to expanding these offerings, providing comprehensive education that supports the ongoing development of professionals and enhances the quality of patient care.

Patient Resources

We believe that knowledge is power when it comes to your health. That's why we provide a variety of patient resources, including educational materials.

Helping Users, Caregivers, and Facilities Recognize Walker Misuse

MediTerry Inc. is a medical device company based in Tamaroa, Illinois, focused on assistive technology, safer mobility education, and caregiver support.

Our flagship product, the GEORGE Feedback System Front-Wheel Walker, was designed to help address a common safety concern: assistive device misuse during important mobility moments such as sit-to-stand transfers, turning, and everyday walker use.

GEORGE provides real-time audio and visual feedback when walker misuse is detected. The system helps alert the user that stability may be compromised, giving them a reminder to adjust their technique.

GEORGE Feedback System Front-Wheel Walker

The GEORGE FWW is a front-wheeled walker with built-in audio and visual feedback designed to reinforce safer walker technique. When misuse is detected, GEORGE provides an alert to help remind the user to correct their positioning and technique.

This feedback is intended to support what therapists, caregivers, and rehabilitation professionals already teach: safer sit-to-stand transfers, controlled movement, and proper walker use.

Who GEORGE Helps

GEORGE was created to support:

Seniors who use front-wheeled walkers
Veterans who rely on assistive devices for mobility
Caregivers helping loved ones at home
Rehabilitation facilities and therapy teams
Skilled nursing facilities and assisted living communities
Home health professionals
Rural families with limited access to frequent in-person mobility support

The Problem GEORGE Helps Address

Many falls and near-falls can occur during simple daily moments, especially when a user is tired, distracted, rushing, or alone. One common issue is improper walker use during sit-to-stand transfers, including lifting or tipping the walker for leverage instead of using proper technique.

When a caregiver is not present, the user may not receive an immediate reminder that their walker technique needs correction. GEORGE helps provide that reminder through real-time feedback.

GEORGE does not replace a therapist, caregiver, or medical professional. It is designed to support safer mobility habits by reinforcing proper assistive device use when misuse is detected.

Built for Education, Safety Awareness, and Caregiver Support

GEORGE was developed by Blake Terry, a Physical Therapist Assistant and the founder of MediTerry Inc., in honor of his grandfather, Edward L. George.

The goal is simple: help users, caregivers, and healthcare professionals recognize assistive device misuse earlier and support safer walker technique through real-time feedback.
